Furzey Gardens visit, 13th September 2021

Furzey Garden is an informal woodland garden located near Minstead in The New Forest.  It has an excellent cafe and shop and exists to raise funds to support those with learning difficulties providing horticultural training and employment. Your Society has given financial support on several occasions in recent years and we thought it about time we paid them another visit.

With all the COVID restrictions in 2020, and further uncertainty about what would be possible this year, Furzey was an obvious and ideal choice. Not too far away, nor dependent on coach travel, 20 or so members made their own way to the garden, to enjoy a lovely day, the weather being both dry and with improving sunshine as the afternoon wore on. Our generously priced tickets afforded entrance, an extensive guided tour of the 10 acre garden and concluding with tea and cakes, or a cream tea, with all the baking undertaken in house. And excellent it was too.

Perhaps a little early for the Autumn colours for which Furzey is well known, the garden nonetheless looked lovely.

We hope you enjoy Bill Shepley’s great photographs…thank you Bill.
