Talk: “The History of Stewarts Garden Centres and Nurseries”
Martin Stewart

The origins of Stewarts Garden Centres and Nurseries is an interesting story going back 8 generations to 1742. Their first garden centre was created within adapted sheds at Ferndown in 1955 and was the forerunner of the first purpose-built centre in this country opened in October 1961: ‘Garden-Lands’ at Christchurch, quite possibly the first ‘Out of Town’ retail ‘anything’!
Tues 29th November
AGM, Social and Gardening Entertainment
Hale Village Hall, 7.30 pm
This year we liven up the AGM with a performance by “Chapter and Verse”, a group of amateur performers who will entertain us with their rendition of “Gardens and Gardeners”… their delights and foibles. Using prose, poetry and dramatic sketches, ranging from the light-hearted to the thought provoking, this hugely entertaining group will surprise you with their wit and wisdom about gardeners and their gardens.
Followed by drinks and an American Supper – please bring a plate of food if you can. Also, see how you do with the Chairman’s quiz. Oh, not forgetting the AGM too.
