Returning by popular demand! A most knowledgeable and entertaining speaker, Barry Newman, RHS judge, is back to outline the art of ‘growing for showing’, explaining how to get the best out of your home grown produce and exhibiting for success.

A wide selection of local nursery and home-grown plants at competitive prices. Please drop off donations between 9 am and 10.30 am.
Tue 21st May
Talk: “Attracting beneficial wildlife to your garden with flower power”,
Marina Christopher
Hale Village Hall, 7.30 pm
Again, a favourite HWHS speaker, Marina is a Chelsea medal winning plantswoman and author of many articles and books. Her nursery is famous for plants attractive to wildlife and conservation.

Outing: Waterperry Gardens
Waterperry Gardens, Oxfordshire, made famous by Beatrix Havergal who established her School of Horticulture for Ladies here from 1932 to 1971. It is now home to 20 acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, a quality plant centre and garden shop, gallery and gift shop, museum and tea shop. Something for everyone. All day coach trip. Ticket price TBC.

An opportunity for children and their families to enjoy gardening and arts activities in preparation of entering our annual show competitions. Lots of crafty fun and delicious refreshments. Time to be confirmed.

Celebrating local horticulture at it’s best! Entry forms to be returned by Wednesday, 12th July. All entries to be staged between 8am to 10am. Public opening from 2pm, prizegiving at 4pm.

Talk – “Climbers”, Pip Bensley
From Southampton, Pip Bensley is an award-winning teacher, flower arranger, nursery grower, landscape architect and author. Pip draws on her Hillier experiences to talk on climbing plants.
Wed 9th October
Talk: “Hampshire Carnivorous Plants Ltd”, David Tite
Woodgreen Village Hall, 7.30pm
Hampshire Carnivorous are the UK’s largest and highest awarded carnivorous nursery. Whether an inspired beginner or a keen carnivorous collector, a most interesting presentation with a chance to hear about unusual temperate plant material, growing conditions, and potting mixes.

Outing: Exbury Gardens
A local self-drive trip to Exbury Gardens to enjoy autumnal colours and a garden stroll and chat with other HWHS members, £10.00 per person.

AGM, Christmas Social Evening

AGM, quiz, followed by drinks and an ‘American’ supper. Please bring a dish to share!
